When building regulations say you need fire doors,
you don't have to replace your original doors!
Instead of changing your traditional doors, you can varnish or paint your current doors using fire retardant paints or varnishes,
and these even come in a matt finish.
No need to remove the beautiful traditional features that are Edwardian, Georgian or Victorian period doors. You can just paint or varnish them.
It works out around £40 per door.
The cheapest I have found, and who give you the most info, including a help line is
Envirograf varnish or paint kits from Fire Retardant Paint
You can also treat exposed beams.
Check with your building regulations person as each build is different
but when my sister had her loft converted, she managed to treat the original doors and beams this way and building regs passed it.
It was her amazing, highly skilled craftsman of a builder who advised her to do this so she could keep her beautiful original doors and have her large old beams exposed.

I have seen so many beautiful wooden doors removed and replaced with awful cheap (in looks only) standard fire doors,
I was amazed you could do this.
